Hello, I’m Matt Walmsley, a 40 something UK based family guy, working in the IT industry, getting fit and raising money to help those who like my wife are affected by Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC).
I first started thinking about doing “Kili” in the spring of 2012 after seeing a business acquaintance had recently done it. At the time I was very unfit and overweight to point of being clinically obese. A few years earlier I’d seen UK radio and TV presenter Chris Moyles climb Kilimanjaro for the Comic Relief Charity. Chris is a “chunky chap” and so I figured if he could do it so could I!
This blog will follow my preparations, training and attempt to summit Mt Kilimanjaro in June 2013. Along the way I’ll share some thoughts about my reasons for doing the climb to help PSC Support and the fantastic work that they do. The climb attempt is being 100% self-funded so every penny donated goes to the charity. I hope you enjoy ready my blog and please do leave comments or questions. Alternatively send me an email and I’ll be happy to get back to you.
Cheers,
Matt
